In order to drive in UAE you need to have an International Driving Permit issued outside the UAE. Please note that tourists are allowed to drive only rented vehicles (Rent-a-Car).

If you need to take your car outside the UAE using the customs documents (Carnet de Passage en Douane) then you need to provide a cash guarantee or a bank guarantee depending on the model, manufacture year of the car and also the country you wish to visit .

On entry to a country, at the customs check point, the officials will stamp an entry on the souche of the Carnet de Passage en Douane and an exit stamp will be stamped when you exit the country.
- What happens if I don't bring back my car from the country I am visiting?
If you fail to bring your car back from the country you visited then the guarantees will not be refunded to you unless you provide an attested document indicating that the customs duties have been paid in the country the car was left behind.

In order to participate in local or international rallies or karting races, you need to obtain a competition license from the ATCUAE. To obtain a competition license you need to have a valid UAE driving license and a medical fitness certificate as per CIK/FIA regulations. Foreign drivers should get their country's ASN (National Sporting Authority) approval in order to get his/her competition license from the ATCUAE.

The FIA Middle East Rally Championship is a rally event registered in the FIA international sporting calendar. Many rounds of rallies are held in different countries throughout the year and the driver who scores the highest number of points in these rounds is declared the FIA Middle East Champion for that year. The UAE hosts a round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship, the Dubai International Rally held in Dubai, it being the final round of the championship.

It is one of the rounds of the FIA Cross-Country Rallies World Cup and FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship.

The homologation paper is a document which certifies that the vehicle used in the rally is custom-built according to FIA specifications for that group or class of vehicle. To get your vehicles homologated you need to contact your ASN.
