Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to place on Yas Island’s Yas
Marina Circuit.
The Formula 1™ track is 5.55 kilometers long, and can be split in to smaller tracks
at 3.1kms and 2.4kms, with each capable of operating simultaneously when desired.
Over 50,000 spectators watched the action on the circuit from the comfort of permanent,
covered grandstands and VIP facilities, the circuit being the only motorsport venue
in the world where all of the grandstands are covered.
While everyone at the circuit felt like a VIP, the 60-meter solar powered Sun Tower
was reserved for VIPs. The Driving School Building, Drag Racing Centre, Maintenance
Building, Karting Centre and Business Park are now expected to be a beehive of activity
year-round.
The ATCUAE in its capacity as the local ASN, or national sporting authority, was
tasked with ensuring that the Circuit and the event itself adhered to FIA specifications,
rules and regulations. Additionally, the ATCUAE had also assumed the responsibility
of recruiting and training the hundreds of marshals and volunteers who manned the
event. In essence, the ATCUAE played a very pro-active role to ensure that the inaugural
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was a success on unprecedented scales.
