1. FIA Action for Road Safety
The FIA's Action for Road Safety is a global campaign, focusing the federation's resources on helping it's member organisations around the globe to educate and advocate for safer roads, vehicles and behaviours.
Each year, 1.3 million people are killed on roads and another fifty million are injured, some of them very seriously. The FIA's Action for Road Safety aims to assist the United Nations to reach the goal of saving five million lives on the world's roads in ten years.
2. Road Safety campaign launched to stop the carnage on UAE roads
"Don't End Your Life with an Accident"
A new road safety campaign targeting UAE drivers has been launched to curb the accidents and deaths on the nation’s roads. The campaign is a unified effort with the Ministry of the Interior to educate young people to reduce their speed and put an end to the carnage.
826 fatalities happened in 2010 from road traffic collisions in the UAE and the Ministry of the Interior has come together with the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE to eradicate these deaths and make UAE roads safer for motorists and pedestrians. Road traffic collisions in the UAE fell by 14% last year on 2009’s figures despite an overall increase in traffic offences being committed to more than 6.7 million.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of ATCUAE, commented on the launch “This is a very important campaign for people in the UAE. Traffic deaths on the roads are avoidable and motorists must slow down. If people want to drive fast there are race tracks that can be used to do this but the roads are no place for speed”.
‘Don’t End Your Life With an Accident’ road safety booklets are being handed out nationwide to inform young people of the dangers and how they can be safe on the roads.
